New York Mills re-dedicates the Beekman Gym

The Beekman Gymnasium has been the home of New York Mills Basketball since the 1940's.  Built as the Rhodes Hospital by the US Army during WW 2, the building has never been accessible to the physically disabled, and didn't have a distinct entrance.  The District's recent Additions & Alterations project included a new Accessible entrance with approximately 30 feet of interior ramp, walk off mats to help keep the wood floor dry, and an expanded concession stand.  The new entrance is highly visible and well defined.

Color in the Classroom at Indian River High School

This rendering exhibits a large group instruction (LGI) classroom currently under construction at Indian River Central School District. The vision is to create a multipurpose, multifaceted, flexible instructional space which will allow for student-teacher interaction and engagement while using state of the art technology.

The project allowed for the implementation of new research that found a relationship between the use of color and students performance. By using neutral shades on the side walls and a tension-reducing darker color on the teaching wall, this creates less strain and positively affects perceptions of learning and well being for students.

SUNY Cortland, Neubig Dining Hall Complete

Neubig Hall was constructed in 1958 and houses the main dining hall for the campus as well as the bookstore and offices. The projects goal was to create a dining environment for the students which reflects with their current lifestyle and attitudes.

The work was broken into two phases and construction was completed during school breaks.

In Phase 1, the 6,800 s.f. Dining Room was renovated to include new finishes, furnishings, and food service equipment. A focal point of the design is the Mongolian Grill located in the center of the dining room. This station allows for the students to select their meal and have it cooked fresh in front of them. A major deign element was to lower the ceilings from their original height to reduce the volume of the space a create a more intimate setting. Several large screen TV monitors, a sounds system and wireless internet access points are included in the space.

In Phase 2, the work included upgrades to the serving line, including new finishes to compliment the Dining Room and new food service and millwork. The focal point of the serving line is the new International Grill which required the complicated removal of several bearing walls and revisions to the buildings structure.
